Oh and cell service is very poor and spotty once you hit the mountains. We have not traveled in heavy snow, only light snow. We have never not been able to get there, even at night, even when it was snowing. I always check the link the day before and look at the forecasts. We come from 64 through Staunton onto 250W. It is a very dark and desolate drive.Īlso, coming from DC may give you more highway options than we have coming from Richmond. I strongly recommend only driving the roads during the daylight hours. We used to drive our van and had no problems although I do think the all wheel drive is better. Once you cross over into WV, the roads can be slicker.(the last 30 miles). The roads in VA are usually very well kept. Once past Staunton, VA, it is all mountain passes. Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort is located roughly 1.5 miles from the waterpark and complimentary shuttle service runs between the properties twenty-four hours each day. However, there are times when Mother Nature pounds the snow down so quick and hard the road crews don't have a lot of instant effect on the roads. However, the skiing industry is very important to WV (and the counties) and thousands of people travel to the slopes at Snowshoe and Canaan every weekend - so road conditions are a very important factor. There aren't any major interstate highways leading close to Snowshoe so the roads won't quite get the treatment the interstates do.
